After buying a new Amana refrigerator, I decided to purchase this thermometer to check the normal setting (4) for both refrigerator and freezer. I have found that I was able to reduce both of the settings by one to save more energy as the settings were colder than needed. The refrigerator setting is still a little on the cold side when the door is opened infrequently. Definitely a good buy and large numbers that are easy to read.

I purchased this and a few days later purchased the MIU 90062 thermometer, one for each fridge. They gave the same temp readings when placed next to one another so I assume they are pretty accurate. The advantage to the Taylor is the giant dial which makes it easier to read. The advantage to the MIU is it costs less and the dial is easy enough to read, but with smaller numbers. For the price it is good to have something like this for the peace of mind it gives you to know that the fridge is operating at safe temperatures (or not at safe temps so you can do something about it). I would buy this again.

Taylor is known for its thermometers. I have used many of them through the years. This professional freezer-refrigerator thermometer is great. We had problems with our refrigerator/freezer and after my husband fixed it, we needed to have an accurate reading on both compartments. We like this one because it is large. You don't even need your glasses to check it to see if your fridge or freezer is in the correct temp. zone because the areas are clearly marked in color. It also responded rapidly when moved between the two compartments. The angle of the dial makes reading very easy.

This thermometer is perfect for watching freezer/refrigerator temps. Very easy to read dial. I bought 5 of them for 3 separate units and all are working perfectly. One even made me aware of a problem with a thermostat in one of my refrigerators and it was still under warranty. I would have never discovered the problem without the thermometer and it's paid for itself already!!

I wish I would have had this thermometer all along, then I would have known that my refrigerator wasn't working properly. After my refrigerator was fixed, I invested in two thermometers: one for my freezer and one for the refrigerator. Now every day I am aware of the temperature and I know if it is working properly. Great investment! Cheaper then replacing all that food!!

This thermometer works as advertised. I like the safe-temp ranges provided. If I did it over again, I may have gone for a different model since it's somewhat cumbersome to find a place to safely put it in a home-freezer. A suction cup model may be a better choice.

I purchased four of these at the same time and they all read within two degrees of each other after leaving them in one refrigerator for 24 hours. I also placed them all in a freezer with the same results. The nice 3" dial face is very easy to read. Taylor thermometers have done me well in the past & so far these are working well.

The big, bold numbers make this thermometer extremely easy to read, even at a distance. I use it in my refrigerator and have found it to be 100% accurate. It registers a constant 38 degrees which I have verified with an industrial style digital probe.
For most refrigerators and freezers, this thermometer will be set on a flat shelf using the stainless steel base. For those that have wire grate-type shelving, the base can be rotated to hang between the grates.
This thermometer provides everything you need: easy to read, extremely accurate, and peace of mind knowing that your food is stored at a safe temperature (below 40 degrees).

I have a very, very, very old, large upright freezer in my basement. Because it is so old, I thought I should check the temp. I have checked 3 shelves. The top shelf came out to be 3 degrees above zero, and the 2nd and 3rd shelves are right on zero. Even though I don't know if the thermometer is accurate, I was pleased that it distinguished 3 degrees difference from the top to the next shelf. It is certainly very easy to read. I have not yet tried it in my refrigerator/freezer upstairs, but I really like this thermometer.

I bought this to counter the vagueries of our fridge temperature setting. With the aid of this neat device we immediately brought an end to the frozen lettuce and moldy cream cheese which had been the consequence of the fridge's mod swings. As an encore, I put it in the freezer and ended the dessication of many of our frozen foodstuffs.
Great product.

Somehow we endured a terrible GE fridge that the repair department insisted was working fine from 1998 until last week! Well, our new fridge works because I now get to experience chilled MILK again in my home. I bought this thermometer just the same and my years of privation have left such a mark on me that I will probably always want one of these for whatever fridge I call my own. Based on multiple experiences with two appliances, I believe that Sears does not want to honor warranties and have instructed their repairmen to hem and haw and deny that there is a problem with a product and that the appliance will eventually adjust itself.
November 16, 2006 postscript:
Whirlpool tried to do the same thing that Sears did on my GE fridge for eight years i.e. "Jennifer" said that food is okay between 30 to 46!!! degrees so forty degrees at maximum temperture is just fiiiiiiiiine and I wouuld have to pay for the service call if there was nothing repairable on the fridge because my warranty only covers repairs and if they decide there is nothing to fix then there is nothing to fix so what if my meat is spoiled, my milk is warm! It was EXACTLY the same spiel as Sears. I told "Jennifer" to look on the internet to learn that 40 degrees is not SAFE for meat and that I have fridge thermometer that tells me that the fridge is stalled on 40 and has yet to enter the "safe" zone on my thermometer AND food smells in the fridge. I told "Jennifer" that if maximum temp according to Whirlpool is 40 degrees that I will go on every internet site that allows reviews of Whirlpool and write that Whirlpool stands by 40 degrees as safe for meat. I've read Fast Food Nation and I own a fridge thermometer. I am in no mood to be diddled!
Jennifer then left a message on my voicemail saying that the repair was cancelled and I would have to call back. When I did knowing that Whirlpool must have my phone number in the system, I was told that I should place a glass of water on the second shelf to test coldness as the proper method. I told her that I was using a PROFESSIONAL thermomet i.e. SCIENCE not emotion and if I had to go through the same hoops as with Jennifer then direct me to somebody who is authorized to deal with me. They are sending "factory service" out to me tomorrow. There's no way that the methods used are the same as Sears to avoid fixing uncold fridges. It's an industry wide scam. Buy this thermometer!
25.) How much is accuracy worth?
Reviewed by: Marc Albert WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY USA

Let me preface this by saying that at $4.40 there isn't much risk in buying this thermometer. Given Amazon's great customer service I'm sure I can return it but it's not really worth sending it back. I've read the previous comments and 5-star ratings and I'm left wondering if anyone else checked the accuracy before commenting. I checked it out at with accurate digital and analog thermometers at room temperature of 68 degrees, at refrigerator temperature of 36 degrees, and at a freezer temperature of -2 degrees. In all cases I found the Taylor Professional Freezer-Refrigerator Thermometer to read 3 degrees lower than actual temperature. There does not seem to be any way to adjust the dial with the exception of taking it apart and moving the faceplate (not sure if that is possible without breaking it). I gave it only one star for just this reason; that you cannot calibrate the unit for error, not for the inaccuracy itself.
It does have a big dial and is easy to read but I think at the critical temperature of a refrigerator it is important to be accurate. I realize there may be many people who do not have the equipment to check out the accuracy as I do, but there is a significant difference in storing food at 37 degrees F rather than at 40.
So if you're agreeable to mentally normalizing the temp (as I will do) when you read it, I suppose you'd be satisfied with it given it's low cost. That last statement presupposes that the one you buy has the same inaccuracy as mine. Who knows, the one you get might be "right on" but how would you know that without calibrating it?
