Considering the low price on this product, it is a good scale. I don't see why anyone would need to spend more. I haven't tested it for accuracy with 20 lb weights or anything, but I'm pretty sure it's accurate, which can be unfortunate sometimes! It does have a plastic creeking sound when I step on it but it even does that when I put my cat on it.

I used to have to weigh myself 4 times and ultimately guess at what I should be, but this one is defiatly accurate. It does creek a little when you step on it, but not in a worrysome way. Also I love that the main part is plastic, not glass - glass is cold to stand on in the mornings. This scale is definately worth the price.

I have two suggestions for those having a problem, one has been mentioned, I dont know about the other.
1. Place the scale on a flat tile or wooden floor, no mat or rug.
2. Pace your toes on the same spot each time. Slipping your foot back or forward produces different results.

3 of us tested this on the last weekend. we measured our wts 3 times, at intervals of about 4 hours at different locations in the house. It was always the same to the last decimal for all of us.
Being the same all the time, may not mean that it is accurate, there can be a negative or a positive error at all times, but that does not affect me.
Apart from this, like most other digital wt machines i checked, this is simple to use as well, just tap it once, wait for it to normalize to zero and then step on it (make sure that your legs are as far apart but also not going out of the machine frame)

I was desperate for a scale when my 7-year old simple digital HealthOMeter finally died.
I went to the neighborhood Rite Aid store and got a WeightWatchers scale by Conair, and what a horrible product it was!!! Showed me a 5 to 7 lb difference in such a short time! Promptly returned it and came back to good old HealthOMeter.
I have never had problems with HealthOMeter before. But just as a test, I checked my weight against this one several times, and also against my friend's scale the first two weeks. It was accurate.
This scale looks really neat, is not heavy, and easy to clean too. You can set your display to either LBS or KG.
The numbers are nice, big, and black so reading shouldn't be a problem. I prefer if it were in bright red like my previous Healthometer. I could read that even if I were standing in a pitch dark room. This one unfortunately doesn't have any back lights so your room should have good sun light or be well lit. It doesn't matter to me honestly. It still qualifies for money well spent.

I replaced a Taylor brand scale that I had purchased for about the same price. It stopped working when I snapped the thread-thin wire that some sadist had designed to hold in the battery. Do not buy a Taylor, OK.
I bought these scales for around twenty dollars and did not have great expectations. I was surprised by the quality of the finishing and the readings were accurate (give or take .2 or .4 of a pound). I read that another reviewer had a problem learning how to use it so I took a minute to read the instructions and it worked like a charm. Our baby weighs around 28 lbs. and I weigh around 172 and when we get on together or independently the readings add up the same. Pretty happy.
I've read some of the one star reviews and it's obvious that they received damaged goods. This thing has a five year warranty so if it acts up then back it goes.

I have had this scale for a little more than a month and so far I am quite pleased...except for the lack of deniability. Not that the scale is inaccurate mind you, the fluctuations are consistent with what you should expect your body to do throughout the day. I have weighed myself repeatedly with an accuracy of less than a pound of fluctuation which can also be expected depending on where your center of gravity is in relation to your standing position on the scale.
Overall I find the scale to be very consistent and accurate (and my wife agrees, just don't tell her I said so) and would recommend purchasing this scale. However, the display has large, clear, bold numbers so if you are in denial, like me, and don't want a scale that reaches out and slaps you with a number you didn't want to see...get a scale you can't read!

Also, multiple measurements resulted in the same reading within a couple of pounds. I'm about 250 and I find this reasonable. The display is large and easy to read. Make sure you place the scale on hard surface to get the most accurate readings. There is a procedure to turn the scale on before stepping on it. You must tap the lower, right corner of the scale surface and then watch the display go through a setup. When you see 0.0 on the display, it's ready for you. You must do this each time you take your weight.

This scale is obviously far more accurate than an analog scale. I hope it last's that 5+ years from the description.
I got this scale for someone who was using an analog scale for years. She believes this digital scale is lying to her just like the digital scales at the doctor's office, therefore, she is far more comfortable with the analog scale that lies to her a little by about 5 lbs south.
What these new fangled scales need is an automated cheering section: "Hey! You lost a pound since the last time you weighed yourself! You're doing Great!" Something to that effect.
I like that this scale is wide. The description doesn't say that it's especially wide, but it's still wider than the "wide" digital scale that costs a little more, therefore, it's very a great value for the comfort and ease of use it provides.

I'm more than satisfied with this scale. I was concerned that I would have to buy a more expensive scale to get good accuracy (see reviews of other digital scales in this price range,) but I've tested it several times over several days, and my weight varies by 2 pounds or less over the course of the day. My first weigh-in of the day is pretty much the same as previous mornings, sadly.
The neutral color (grey) and glass would blend in well with just about any decor, and the LCD screen is easy to read, with 1.5 inch high numbers.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it creaks quite a lot when I step on it, even though I'm nowhere near its 330 pound maximum load. That problem is in my head more than in the scale: I don't think it's going to break, but it sounds like I've got two people standing on it at once--I'm not THAT fat, am I?
An added feature is that when I'm craving, I go into the bathroom and look at it, and know that it isn't going to fall for any of my excuses tomorrow morning. So the last piece of cake still sits in the fridge. The scale has intimidated me into not eating it.
Accurate, easy to read, easy on the eyes, and intimidating--I think it's a good deal.
7/12/2008 update: Two years after I bought this scale, I like it as much as I did when I first got it.
In fact, today I realized my mother needs a scale, and I bought this one for her. I threw in a Sudoku book and got free shipping. And I look like a very thoughtful daughter. ;^)
But I got her this scale because I know that, even with her no longer perfect eyesight, she'll be able to read the numbers. And I know that after two years of daily use, this scale is still accurate.

I liked the look of this scale more than anything else. It's obviously important to place this (or any other scale) on a hard surface (as opposed to carpet, for instance), but I recommend checking your weight at least three times to ensure that you are getting a precise measure. A tap on the scale turns it on and after a few seconds of calibration, it registers a zero, at which point you may step on it. The scale determines your weight in less than 5 seconds depending upon how steady you are, and turns off a few seconds after you step off. The first reading usually read 1-3 pounds more or less than subsequent readings, so I trust the reading that I can reproduce after repeating the on/off cycle. That is, reading 2 and 3 were usually the same, so I trusted them. Other than that, I like this scale.

Due to Amazon's amazing customer support and the fact that I live within an hour of Seattle, I got a replacement scale today.
This one seems to be working much better. I've weighed myself throughout the day and it seems to be within a pound or so each reading. It is reading about 6 pounds heavier than my $10 dial scale we bought 5 years ago. Tomorrow I will be weighed at the doctor's office and will know which one is more correct. Either way, I can add or subtract a few pounds as long as it is consistent, which this one seems to be. Now hopefully this one works tomorrow.

The scale in terms of looks and design is very nice. Sleek, and should match well with any decor you may have. It's a neutral gray with the glass upper region. It has large numbers that can be easily seen from a distance and it's quick. The feel is good, doesn't feel cheap or like if it's going to break. One thing that it does is that it's not 100% accurate if you get on and off in a weird angle or weight distribution. I'm guessing the scale calculates too early and doesn't allow your body to settle into the scale. But it's accurate enough. Once you get the feeling of the scale you will have accurate numbers to log in and keep track of your weight. I'd recommend buying this scale given the price range it is in. I even weighed my cat on it :) 12lbs. LOL. Enjoy. Hope this review helps your decision.

Well, once you see the 0.0 and step up, if you touch the area where the sticker is at all, it will start over and reset to 0.0. So, you have to position your feet in a way that you don't hit the sticker when weighing. I hope that makes sense. Not a huge deal, but something to consider.

I ordered the Omron HR-100C ~07 21 2009. Online reviews by Consumer Reports/Research rated it best in basic models. It's worked well, not only with the accompanying wrist display, but also with my Nordic Track C-1500 treadmill.
The Omron wrist display changes faster than the treadmill display, but the two readings usually average within two or three beats per minute of each other.
With my rather old eyes, I cannot see the wrist display easily, when I wear it like a wrist watch, while running. I'll probably carry the wrist display in my hand when I run outside. When I run indoors on the treadmill, I tape the wrist display up on my treadmill monitor. The wrist display is fairly good sized, visually, but not so large as to be heavy or bulky.
One minor problem was when I put the wrist monitor up on the treadmill display on the right side, it sometimes dropped to 1/2 of the heart rate. Probably due to limited distance of wireless signal, supposedly 20 inches. When I moved the wrist monitor to the left side of my treadmill display, no problems. That was closer to the chest strap signal sender, slightly toward left side of my chest.
I have not had any problems with the treadmill receiver, picking up the heart rate monitor signal from the chest strap.
One unexpected and pleasant surprise, was that the Omron proved my treadmill had a built in receiver for heart rate wireless signal. Soon after I bought the treadmill a couple yrs ago, I also bought an AccuRate heart monitor for $100 from the same treadmill company. This monitor was described as the best match for this treadmill. But the monitor never worked with this treadmill. I even bought a 2nd new battery for the heart rate monitor. The treadmill and heart rate monitor company first tried to tell me to install a small receiver card, in a place on the treadmill, that had no such feasibility. Then they told me to rip out the main treadmill console, send it in, and they'd send a replacement I could install. Even though I'm capable with electronics and mechanics, I didn't have time or inclination to do that. The treadmill by itself, is excellent, and I didn't want to risk messing it up, following the guesswork of a bunch of sales kids, whose engineering/repair service training is probably not as well funded as the marketing for NordicTrack & UTS and their many treadmill models, which change often.
Anyway, the $39 Omron HR-100C, has now proven that the treadmill company (NordicTrack - UTS) had sent me a defective AccuRate heart rate monitor, but the treadmill itself, is fine.

Since there are no instructions how to do this it is hard to get a real result.

126.) WARNING: Much Less Accurate Than You Think!
Reviewed by: Al Wisconsin
Rating:
This scale includes some sneaky and deceptive firmware that makes it seem much more accurate than it really is.
Here's why I bought this scale: a friend had this scale, and to test it out, I weighed myself three times. Each time I weighed 167.6 pounds. "Wow" I said, "This scale is really accurate." So I bought one.
However, after I bought it, I determined that if two successive weighings differ by less than a pound or so, the scale will show the original weight. In other words, the scale lies about the weight so that you will think it is accurate. That is, if two successive weighings are close, that is, if it is likely that the person is weighing him or herself twice, it displays the original weight.
Here's how I determined this: I weighed myself four times, and got exactly the same reading (e.g. 167.0). I then weigh something else, or weigh myself with one foot on the floor. After "resetting" the scale, I weigh myself again, and get a reading of "167.8."
Another test is this: I weigh myself then pick up a glass with 12 ounces of water in it, and weigh myself again. The result: same reading.
This "feature" is very inconvenient if there are two people using the scale who are similar in weight. But even if you live alone, you will find that your readings are much less accurate than you think.
Here's what I want in a digital scale. You step on the scale, and it shows your weight. Every three seconds the weight may go up or down a bit, due to measurement inaccuracies. I suspect that this is how the company designed it originally, but that the variations were so large that they knew people wouldn't buy it.
If you want an accurate scale that doesn't deceive you, look else where.

I think it could be a design issue. The platform you stand on is curved - perhaps to match your foots curve, I really don't know. But I do think this makes it difficult to stand with weight evenly distributed on the platform.
I have now moved my old scale to another room and it works fine so the health o meter is now relgated to the corner to collect dust.

I find in my use that this scale has shown a 2 pound margin of error in my weight range of around 195 pounds. Depending on where I place my feet, I can get a 2 pound variance. That it offers tenths of a pound in its display is ridiculous in light of this broad variance. I can use the scale consistently however, though it may not refleect true weight, if I am careful to always place my feet in the same location and always stand with the same weight distribution on ball and heel and take 5-7 weighings and accept the weight that comes up most often. I didn't bother to weigh myself twice because the reading on the scale matched the readings I was getting at the gym (I took it with me to check). So, despite all the bad reviews that talked about inaccuracies, I continued to trust my scale. After about a month I started getting readings that didn't quite look right. I was gaining when I should have lost and losing when I should have gained. I just chalked it up to careless dieting.
Finally, last month I started getting these crazy 5 pound "gains" out of nowhere. I stepped off the scale, waited a couple of minutes, got on it again and amazingly enough, I was back to my normal weight. I did it again and suddenly I'd lost a pound. One more try shows I gained 1.5 pounds. Today I got on the scale and couldn't believe my eyes: It says I lost TWENTY POUNDS in ONE WEEK. Um, yeah. I did my usual routine of waiting a few minutes and getting back on it. I got two readings that say I lost 20 pounds and three normal looking readings.
This scale is terrible. If you only need it to be accurate for a month, go ahead and buy it. Otherwise you'll be doing what I do now: averaging the weights you get over a 10 minute period and throwing out results that look way too good to be true.

Functional, Streamlined Design Simplifies Your Life Unlike old dial scales with tiny, difficult to decipher indexes, the HDL820KD has a 1.3-inch LCD and clear digital numerals that make reading your weight easy.
The scale itself has a slim design with a silver-tone platform and elegant transparent glass accents. Complementing any home decor, the scale is both striking and conveniently sized. It measures 13.4 x 12.7 x 2.7 inches and weighs 4.2 pounds, meaning that unlike bulky, unsightly dial scales, you will never need to store it away. With your scale in view, you will be more likely to measure your progress and reach your weight goals.
This unit runs on one long-life lithium battery (included). Replacing the battery is easy, and a digital readout lets you know when your battery life is low. And for peace of mind, the HDL820KD is covered by a five-year limited warranty.
Precise Measuring Capability for Accurate Results
The Health o Meter Digital Scale accurately measures weight in .2-pound increments up to 330 pounds. Such precise measurement makes reaching your weight goals easier, because it means you can learn to understand your weight variation patterns and track how your body responds to different foods, habits, and exercise.
When setting weight objectives for yourself, it is important to have an accurate starting point so you can correctly measure your results. Older bathroom scales featuring a spring action can become inaccurate as the mechanism wears out, meaning that your weight may be off by several pounds each time you step on the scale. The HDL820KD eliminates this problem by "zeroing out"--calibrating itself to begin precisely at zero for better accuracy and, ultimately, better weight control.
Before each weighing, use your foot to gently tap on the lower corner of the scale to calibrate. Once the scale has zeroed out, step on--your weight will be displayed in a matter of seconds. Your weight will continue to be visible for a short time until the LCD turns off automatically.
The Importance of Regular Weight Monitoring to a Healthy Lifestyle
Research has shown that people who regularly weigh themselves lose more weight and prevent more weight gain than people who weigh themselves infrequently. This is because weighing yourself more often can help you recognize your body's patterns of weight gain and loss and can help you modify your lifestyle before your weight becomes difficult to control.
Regular weight monitoring will help you learn about how your body responds to different foods, eating habits, and exercise. That means you can learn to understand your weight variation patterns so you won't get discouraged and halt your weight management progress. Also, frequent weighing will fuel your motivation for reaching your weight goals, keeping you on track and encouraged along the way.
